Encouraged by Neeraj, Praveen Chithravel aims for personal best at Federation Cup 2024

Praveen Chithravel aims high at Federation Cup with Neeraj Chopra’s support

Triple jumper Praveen Chithravel is gearing up for the 27th National Federation Senior Athletics Competition at the Kalinga Stadium, with his sights set on not just qualifying for the Paris Olympics, but surpassing his personal best as well. The 22-year-old athlete, who hails from Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu, is feeling confident at his ‘lucky’ venue, especially with the support of Neeraj Chopra, the Olympic and World Champion in men’s javelin throw.

Praveen, who recently won the Indian Grand Prix I with a jump of 17.12m, is aiming for a distance of 17.37m, which is his personal best. He credits his coach, Cuba’s Yoandri Betanzos, for his success and the National Record he set last year. Betanzos has been instrumental in Praveen’s physical and mental training, pushing him to aim higher and make improvements in his technique.

The Federation Cup, which kicks off on Sunday and ends on Wednesday, will see the participation of Neeraj Chopra, adding an extra level of excitement for all the athletes, including Praveen. The young jumper always receives encouraging messages from Chopra after his events, which serve as motivation for him to keep pushing himself.

Last year, Praveen qualified for the Hangzhou Asian Games at the same venue and went on to win a bronze medal. This time around, he is aiming even higher, with the Paris Olympics in his sights. With Chopra’s presence at the competition, Praveen is looking forward to a successful event and hopes to perform well alongside the javelin throw champion.

As the competition approaches, Praveen remains focused and determined to give his best performance. With the support of his coach, Betanzos, and the inspiration from Chopra, he is ready to take on the challenge and achieve his goals. The stage is set for an exciting competition at the Kalinga Stadium, where Praveen aims to make his mark and secure his spot at the Paris Olympics.
