MarYSoul: A Unique Expression Studio and Gallery in Dayton
Marcela De La Trigg, a Texan native who recently graduated from college, made a bold move by taking on the role of a sex education teacher in Ohio in 2020. However, her journey didn’t stop there. De La Trigg, a certified health instructor and yogi, found herself unable to commit to a yoga studio, so she decided to create her own.
The birth of MarYSoul, a donation-based yoga studio, was a result of De La Trigg’s desire to promote inclusivity and community within the yoga space. The studio, with its white-washed walls and worn hardwood floors, quickly evolved into a hub for not just yoga, but also eclectic events and artistic expression.
The name MarYSoul, a fusion of De La Trigg’s Afro-Latina heritage, symbolizes the ocean, the sun, and everything in between. The studio’s open-minded approach and rejection of strict boundaries make it a unique and welcoming space for all.
MarYSoul is not just a traditional yoga studio; it is an expression studio that encourages individuals to embrace their creativity and see themselves as works of art. De La Trigg believes that everyone is an artist and that art is everywhere.
The studio’s walls serve as a canvas for various forms of artwork, from acrylics to watercolors, showcasing the diverse talents of the community. By adopting a community-submission approach to displaying artwork, MarYSoul fosters a sense of unity and acceptance among artists of all levels.
In addition to hosting yoga classes and open mic nights, MarYSoul collaborates with outside groups to offer unique events like Pleasure & Paint, where attendees can express themselves through body-safe paint on canvas. The studio’s versatility and commitment to artistic expression make it a truly one-of-a-kind space in Dayton.
While MarYSoul may not be for everyone, De La Trigg’s vision of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all remains at the core of the studio’s mission. Located at 1001 E. Second St., Building 100 Unit 2075 in Dayton, MarYSoul is open to the public on select days and for special events, inviting individuals to explore their creativity and embrace their inner artist.
