Canadians are moving away from “revenge travel” and embracing “mindful exploration”: study shows

“Mindful Exploration: Canadians Opt for Purposeful Travel Choices, Survey Finds”

Canadians are shifting their travel mindset from “revenge travel” to “mindful exploration,” according to a recent survey conducted by Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG). The study, conducted by YouGov, found that 61 per cent of Canadians are planning to travel within the next year, but with a new purpose in mind.

Instead of impulsive getaways, Canadians are now opting for travel choices that align with their values, aspirations, and tighter budgets. The survey revealed that 82 per cent of respondents are adapting their vacations in response to rising costs rather than abandoning their travel plans altogether.

Chadd Andre, executive vice-president for Flight Centre Canada, stated, “In an era where every dollar counts, Canadians are choosing to invest in travel experiences that resonate with their budgets, values, and desires. With ‘revenge travel’ behind us, Canadians are becoming more intentional, booking well in advance while paying attention to cost-effective options, and favouring places that are less crowded.”

The survey highlights that Canadians are prioritizing cost savings, exclusive deals, destination variety, uniqueness, personalization, and customization in their travel choices. This strategic approach has led to a 35 per cent increase in tour bookings for 2023 compared to previous years, with tours offering savings of up to 20 per cent compared to independently booking the same itinerary.

Flight Centre’s travel experts have curated a list of travel experiences that align with surveyed respondents’ top ten travel preferences, including multi-experience, nature, foodie, beach, cultural, hidden gems, urban, wellness, open seas, and unconventional travel.

Andre also mentioned that Flight Centre is currently offering exclusive deals, including up to 20 per cent off tours and 35 per cent off cruises, as well as savings on vacation packages. This marks the biggest savings for Canadians that Flight Centre has managed to offer simultaneously.

With Canadians seeking to maximize every dollar spent on unique travel experiences, the shift towards mindful exploration is evident in their travel choices. Subscribe to PAX today to stay updated on the latest travel stories and follow PAX on Facebook for more travel inspiration.
