Bengaluru communities showcase creativity through Dasara celebrations

Exploring Creative Doll Arrangements at Dasara Celebrations in Bengaluru

Dasara, the festival deeply rooted in tradition, is not just about worshiping gods and goddesses but also about creative expression through the art of doll arrangements. In Bengaluru, many communities are using this platform to pass on unique social and cultural messages, especially to the younger generations.

Under the umbrella of #ReclaimConstitution, a group of city-based social organizations has organized a month-long Dasara dolls display at Janapada Loka with the theme of ‘Sarva Janaangada Shantiya Thota’ (a peaceful garden of people of all faiths). The display includes dolls representing various faiths such as Buddhism, Jainism, Islam, Christianity, and Hinduism. Additionally, dolls of 15 women members of the Constituent Assembly of India, along with other prominent figures, have been commissioned to celebrate the upcoming 75th year of the Constitution.

Vinay Kumar, the founder of Reclaim Constitution, stated, “Dasara used to be a celebration that showcased themes beyond gods. We have chosen this theme this year to showcase Indian culture and Constitutional values, emphasizing that Dasara is a secular festival.”

Meanwhile, at Garuda Mall, a display of 1,008 dolls of various gods and goddesses has been arranged, showcasing the creativity of 79 artists who worked for months to produce these handmade dolls. The exhibition aims to showcase Indian culture and creativity to the public.

Other Dasara events in Bengaluru include a display of unseen photographs of the royal Dasara by veteran photographer Subba Rao at the Indian Institute of World Culture. The festival is not just about rituals and traditions but also about celebrating creativity, culture, and unity among communities.
