Albertville Welcomes New Animal Control Officer with a Passion for Animals

Albertville, AL – Cooper Hughes, the new animal control officer in Albertville, has always had a deep love for animals. From a young age, she begged her mom for pets and would often bring home wild animals to care for. Now, she runs a rescue with multiple dogs and helps care for the city’s stray pets and animals.

Originally from Canada, Hughes has had a fascinating journey that has taken her across the globe. After graduating high school in New Mexico, she took a one-way flight to Africa where she worked with orphaned elephants in Kenya. She then traveled to India to study endangered tigers before eventually returning to the United States and joining the military.

Despite her adventurous past, Hughes finds fulfillment in her new role in Albertville. She enjoys the variety of tasks that come with being an animal control officer, from rescuing puppies to evicting snakes from under houses. She is dedicated to building a strong relationship with the community and hopes to offer free classes on pet care and training in the future.
