Aftermath of Houston Storm: SPCA Caring for Hundreds of Wild Animals Following Destructive Storms in Southeast Texas

Houston SPCA Caring for Hundreds of Wild Animals After Storm Recovery Efforts

The Houston SPCA’s Wildlife Center is currently caring for hundreds of wild animals in the aftermath of a powerful storm that caused billions of dollars in damage and claimed the lives of seven people in the Houston metropolitan area.

Most of the animals being cared for are baby birds, and officials expect the influx of animals to continue as Houstonians work to rebuild their homes. The Wildlife Center is urging residents to be on the lookout for distressed wildlife and to take the following steps to help them:

– Carefully place the animal in a box with soft rags and a warm, not hot, water bottle until it’s safe to get them to the Wildlife Center.
– Do not try to feed or give water to distressed wildlife, as they may have serious injuries.
– Place the animal in a warm and quiet environment away from household noise and pets until they can be taken to the center.

Residents can also help wild animals by removing debris from birdbaths, putting out extra birdseed or suet, and checking under trees for injured or orphaned wildlife.

For more information on how to help wild animals in need, visit the Houston SPCA’s Wildlife Center website. Donations to support the care of native wildlife can also be made on their website.

As the city continues to recover from the storm, the Houston SPCA’s Wildlife Center is working tirelessly to ensure the well-being of these vulnerable animals.
