Protecting Our Animal Friends from the Intense Summer Heat in Patna
As the summer heatwave continues to grip the state of Patna, our furry friends are also feeling the brunt of the scorching temperatures. Veterinarians are warning pet owners to take extra precautions to ensure the well-being of their beloved animals during this hot season.
Dr. Aaditya Kumar of Vets For Pets, who treats dogs, cats, and rabbits, emphasized the importance of keeping animals hydrated and cool. He mentioned that animals can suffer from heatstroke, dehydration, and even mortality if exposed to temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. Around 60-70% of the current cases he is seeing are related to heatstroke, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Dr. Bindeshwar Singh, who specializes in treating birds and milch animals, also stressed the need for pet owners to create a cool environment for their pets. He recommended keeping pets near plants or in a room with ‘khas’ grass, which acts as a natural coolant. Additionally, he advised sprinkling water on the ground to help lower the temperature.
Dr. Abhijeet Kumar of Animal Healthcare echoed the sentiments of his colleagues, emphasizing the importance of proactive measures to prevent heat stress and heat stroke in pets. He suggested feeding pets fruits like watermelon, musk melon, coconut water, and mango to keep them hydrated and cool.
With temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in many parts of the state, it is crucial for pet owners to be vigilant and take necessary steps to protect their animals from the adverse effects of the heat. By following the advice of veterinarians and providing a cool and comfortable environment for their pets, owners can ensure the well-being of their furry companions during this sweltering summer season.
