LEAD-a-Thon at Keesler Air Force Base Focuses on Leadership and Personal Development

The 81st Training Wing at Keesler Air Force Base recently hosted a two-day leadership and personal development event known as LEAD-a-Thon, organized by Dragon University. The event focused on cultivating leadership skills, personal growth, and fostering a warrior mindset among participants.

The first day of the event featured breakout sessions on key topics such as Great Power Competition, leadership for military and civilians, and family relationships. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in discussions with Col. Omar A. Velasco and Chief Master Sgt. Joseph Y. Bogdan, among others. Col. Billy E. Pope, Jr., the commander of the 81st Training Wing, delivered opening remarks emphasizing the importance of creating leaders who can inspire others.

A new addition to this year’s LEAD-a-Thon was a second day dedicated to showcasing participants’ physical and mental strength through various challenges. Dubbed Warrior Day, this portion of the event allowed Airmen to demonstrate their warrior ethos and skills through activities like defensive maneuvers and sparring. Participants were recognized with a Dragon University Warrior patch, marking their achievement in the professional development program.

Chief Master Sgt. Ron Oudean, the 81st Mission Support Group senior enlisted leader, highlighted the importance of empowering Airmen to recognize their leadership potential and their role in shaping the future of the Air Force. The event aimed to inspire and motivate participants to excel in their roles and contribute to the mission of Keesler Air Force Base.

Overall, LEAD-a-Thon provided Airmen with valuable insights and skills to navigate the challenges of leadership and personal development in the military. The event served as a platform for fostering a culture of excellence and preparing future leaders for success in the Air Force.
