NYPD officers rush injured dog to hospital after owner throws him off ledge

The heart-wrenching story of a puppy named Rocket has captured the attention of New Yorkers after he was rushed to the hospital by NYPD officers last week. The officers responded to a call of a puppy bleeding from the mouth in Washington Heights, Manhattan, and discovered that Rocket had suffered horrific injuries at the hands of his owner, Cleopatra Morgan.

Morgan admitted to throwing Rocket off a ledge before calling 911, claiming she had “snapped.” Body camera footage showed Officer Kelsey Garcia cradling the injured dog, fearing he wouldn’t survive. Despite the odds, Garcia, along with Lt. Vincent Caprino and Officer Joseph Oshea, worked quickly to get Rocket to the ASPCA for treatment.

Rocket underwent leg surgery and received treatment for his injuries, with doctors optimistic about his recovery. Dr. J’mai Gayle, the surgery director at ASPCA, described Rocket as a “trooper” who is eager to be around people. While he still has a long road to full health, Rocket is expected to make a full recovery in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, Morgan faces charges of aggravated cruelty to animals, torture, and other offenses related to Rocket’s abuse. The community has rallied around Rocket, sending well wishes for his speedy recovery and condemning the senseless act of violence against a defenseless animal.

The story of Rocket’s resilience and the swift action of the NYPD officers has touched the hearts of many, reminding us of the importance of standing up against animal cruelty and advocating for the well-being of all creatures.
